SAAN Conference: Shifting Narratives

Technically this is in the past but it was an amazing experience that warrants a post, even if a few days late.

My organization, South Asian Sexual & Mental Health Alliance (SASMHA), recently got back from the University of Michigan where we presented at UM’s SAAN (South Asian Activist Network) conference, the premiere South Asian undergrad student-run conference. At the conference, we presented a workshop on how pop culture stereotypes (in both Hollywood and Bollywood) affect perceptions of gender roles and sexuality in South Asian communities. We also recorded a live episode of our podcast, Brown Taboo Project.

Getting to meet and collaborate with dope South Asian creatives and activists is always going to be a fulfilling experience, especially when you know the conference will have great food!
